 |
| Since its inception the American Turkish Society has supported cultural events highlighting Turkish arts and culture. These efforts have been organized under the “Arts and Culture Committee ” a few years ago. The leadership and vision of the late Arif Mardin, world renowned music producer and long-time vice chairman of the Society, was instrumental in establishing this committee. The initiative collaborates closely with our sister organization, Moon and Stars Project, in supporting and promoting arts and culture programs. In addition, The American Turkish Society hosts a number of events throughout the year featuring lectures, book signings, and slide shows that educate our members about the Turkish history, arts and culture (please see events section for a list of past events). |

| The goals of the Arts and Culture Program: |
- Building an understanding and a positive image of Turkey among Americans
- Serving the Turkish community in America
- Encouraging tourism to Turkey
- Supporting artists and their art
- Remembering and sharing the history, culture and art of Turkey
|
Each year, The American Turkish Society supports two major productions of The Moon and Stars Project: Mayfest, a month-long festival of Turkish visual and performing arts, and the Annual New York Turkish Film Festival.
Additional projects are identified and supported by the Arts and Culture Program on an ongoing basis.
