Renowned cardiac surgeon and American Turkish Society board member Dr. Mehmet Oz joined members and friends for a unique evening Dec 1, 2005. Dr. Oz gave a talk on heart health and signed his latest book You, the Owner's Manual.

A panel discussion regarding the Turkish EU membership talks that were officially launched on October 3rd. The discussion centered around reforms to comply with the EU and what membership would ultimately bring to both sides.

The cocktail reception celebrated the Fire of Anatolia's debut performance in New York. Incorporating a synthesis of folkdance figures and music from different regions, Fire of Anatolia is a unique dance group that gets its source from Anatolia's ancient mythological and cultural history.

The Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H.E. Abdullah Gul addressed members of The American Turkish Society and Turkish-American Business Forum on Turkey's Road to EU Membership as well as other foreign policy priorities of the country.

Ashoka is an international network for social entrepenuers. The evening featured a discussion on social entrepreneurship in Turkey, as well as presentations by two Ashoka Turkey fellows, Mr. Ercan Tutal (Alternative Camp) and Dr. Mustafa Sari (Doga Gozculeri Dernegi).

Marc Grossman was sworn in as Under Secretary for Political Affairs in 2001. Ambassador Grossman has been a career Foreign Service Officer since 1976 and from 1994 to 1997, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Turkey. The discussion revolved around Turkey's importance to the U.S., its commitment to NATO, and its successes in democracy and economic prosperity.

Alem magazine held an event on January 24, 2005, in the Temple of Dendur, Metropolitan Museum of Art. This event was designed to honor the American Turkish Society and its work in advancing and promoting Turkish culture in the United States.

The panel discussion centered around how Turkey’s markets would be affected if Turkey begins to pave its way into Europe as well as the market signals that should be expected in 2005 and how they will affect foreign investment.
